J.R. Celski, the top U.S. medal hope in men’s short track speedskating, failed to medal in the 1,500 meters on Monday, finishing fourth. Charles Hamelin of Canada took the gold medal.
Celski had contact with another skater three laps from the finish, just as he appeared to be making his move to the front.
Celski, a 23-year-old from Federal Way, Wash. — the same town that produced short-track great Apolo Ohno — earned the bronze medal in the same event in the 2010 Vancouver Games.
