SOCHI, RUSSIA - FEBRUARY 15: Evgeny Medvedev #82 of Russia punches Ryan Callahan #24 of United States during the Men's Ice Hockey Preliminary Round Group A game on day eight of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics at Bolshoy Ice Dome on February 15, 2014 in Sochi, Russia. Less than five minutes into the highly anticipated USA-Russia hockey game, we’ve already had multiple scoring chances, several crunching checks and some shoving and yapping in front of the U.S. goal. But there is no score. One early impression: Valeri Nichushkin, the 18-year-old phenom who is a rookie for the Dallas Stars, is an absolute beast out there. His first shift was a blur of deft move-making and bone-rattling hits.

The atmosphere is terrific, with flags flying, chants going up (“Shaybu!”) and horns honking in the stands.

And just now, The Wave.
