Russia now has 20 minutes of hockey in which to salvage its gold medal hopes. The Russians trail Finland, 3-1, through two periods of this quarterfinal game, and a capacity crowd at the Bolshoy Ice Dome is growing increasingly restless.

Finland scored the only goal of the second period, on a power play, when Mikael Granlund tapped in a rebound of a Teemu Selanne shot. Moments later, Russia pulled goalie Semyon Varlamov in favor of Sergei Bobrovsky.

Russia actually dominated the action in the second half of the period, generating numerous scoring chances. But they have been unable to solve Finland goalie Tuukka Rusk.

If Russia loses, it would fail to medal for the third consecutive Olympics.
