West Potomac kicker-punter Chris Blewitt signed with Pitt on Wednesday morning in the high school library, ending a recruiting process that began with Blewitt attending a camp at the school but not expecting to receive an offer.

For West Potomac last season, the All-Met kicked eight field goals, including a 50-yarder, and all but three of his kickoffs reached the end zone (or sailed out) for touchbacks. He averaged 43.5 yards punting.

Blewitt was a specialist almost exclusively, but he was the second-fastest player on the team behind junior running back Demornay Pierson-El.

“I’ve been committed since June or July last year, so it seems like I’ve always been a Pitt Panther,” Blewitt said Wednesday morning. “Now it’s official.”

Pitt plans on giving Blewitt a look at place-kicker. They were impressed at the camp at how an unpanicked Blewitt ran onto the field and quickly converted a field goal as time was running down in the competition.

“I was the last person to go in the finals and everybody else was looking really rushed and a little rattled,” Blewitt said. “I didn’t take any steps, I just went to my spot.”

And what does the rest of signing day hold for Blewitt?

“I’m going out to breakfast [with parents Cathie and Ted], and maybe I’ll see a movie,” he said.
